Back to NY

So yesterday we flew home to New York. The 8 hour flight seemed never ending, especially given that I only slept for about half an hour of it. But I did manage to get some work done while flying over the Atlantic ocean, blasting David Guetta on my ipod, and  surviving on airplane food for dinner. I also want to “self nominate” myself for the most studious student ever, having to wake up at 6 am this morning, unpack, get dressed, and go to class after being awake for almost 24 hours. Brutality at its finest.

So on a completely different note, just as I arrive back In Manhattan, an outfit of civic minded residents -plan to hand out between 30,000-200,000 free name tags in New York on June 1st as a conversation starter in the alleged “city that never speaks”. The bazaar and quite insulting project “will break down the small barriers between people” and probate good said creator Michael Morgernstern who is a filmmaker. He also plans to have people upload footage of the event to a website which he will edit.

While I sit here  thinking that this idea is ludicrous, other people seem to think it’s “fun” says Gail Morse. However the city’s rep comes to New Yorkers defense adding in that “New York is one of the friendliest places in the world” and New Yorkers are the least xenophobic, and most accepting people anywhere-she continued. “People misunderstand our hurried pace for rudeness-if we acknowledged everyone around us all the time, we’d never get anything done”.

While Michael Morgernstern’s mission is to make NYC “friendlier” I don’t quite see the point of the project. Wearing a name tag in the middle of Manhattan seems like an outcry for danger, not friendliness.

On a more friendly, and “lovey dovey” note yyesterday was the second anniversary for Prince William and the beautiful pregnant Kate Middleton. Although the two spent their anniversary apart, both of them were doing good deeds. Prince William was on duty, with his helicopter search and rescue squadron at RAF Valley located in Wales, while Kate was visiting the Naomi House Children’s Hospice, looking absolutely stunning in a peach colored dress and jacket, paired with nude heels and a coordinating clutch. The dutches greeted both children and staff with a smile on her face, and according to US weekly, the royal couple celebrated their anniversary a few days earlier by having a romantic dinner in London on Friday night.

Princess of Darkness

From wearing crop top Bart Simpson sweaters, to skin tight patterned leggings, Cara Delevingne indubitably wants to make a statement for herself, after skyrocketing to fame last year. But is the global style icon getting fashion tips from other people?

Cara Delevingne at the Vogue Festival

Yesterday the model of the moment stepped out wearing a head-to-toe black outfit and round lens tinted sunglasses (similar to Ozzy Osborne) as she headed to the Vogue Festival in London.

But the 20 year old looked relatively low key, in comparison to some of her other wacky street styles, as she headed out to the Southbank Center for the fashion event. Instead of wearing a colorful spring inspired outfit, matched to the 68 degree weather over here, Cara opted for jet black colors, looking like she should be fronting a metal band.

The in demand star wore a pair of super skinny jeans, a loose fitting black T-shirt and a fitted black jacket.

Adding to her edgy day style, she also added a number of pendant necklaces and rings on her fingers.  Cara opted to keep her blonde locks loose and un-styled as she breezed through the town, wearing no makeup.

But we can’t say that the beauty wore all black, as she wore a pair of metallic silver high top sneakers with bright blue visible socks underneath. She also toted her favorite “#” black beanie later on in the day, and was seen holding a notebook with an interesting collage on the back of it.

Cara is one of many stars taking part in the weekend fashion event, which delves into every aspect of the fashion industry hosted by Vogue. On the first day, industry insiders such as: Vivienne Westwood, Natalie Massenet, and Liva Firth all took part in the panel discussions.

Epidemic

So It has been a laughing joke amongst everyone( except me) that last time I came to the United Kingdom, I somehow caught chicken pox and ended up in hospital. Now that measles are spreading around the UK, everyone’s saying I will probably catch the epidemic (just my luck). Determined not to catch anything, and go home healthy- I have somehow caught a stomach bug, just as I have a huge 60+ party to attend tomorrow (fantastic!). So while I am feeling sick to my stomach in bed, everyone else has gone out to eat. I had to skip out on the fun (this time) and have decided to write a little update after falling asleep for two hours late mid day.

Exactly what  I need..minus the balloon
(Yes I am mature!)

So before my stomach was tossing and turning, we went to Milton Keynes shopping center, which is
about an hour or so away. It was supposed to be just me and my mum, but somehow my three siblings ended up lingering along with us. My brother was the worst who just complained every second of every minute, that he didn’t want to go shopping. Yet when we told him he wasn’t coming, he was persistent and persuasive, that he would behave (his almost 11 year old) self.

British delights

As finals are creeping up, I’m starting to get more and more anxious on returning to school. I’m also excited to return to some warm weather. Although I can’t complain of it being that bad, as the sun has been out here. That was of course up until today, when the rain started-and is supposed to subsist up until Monday.

It wouldn’t quite feel like home without some lovely rain.

“A happy rose”

So now back to staying on point and on track. If your wondering what Milton Keynes is, it’s basically like a huge shopping center. As my grandparents live on the country side, where there is land (with sheep on them), and land (without sheep on them) all around, there is virtually nothing to do within a twenty mile radius. There isn’t even a Starbucks anywhere to be found (gasp). Or a coffee shop for that matter.

Costa  (the popular coffee shop here)

I always say that the culture in England is just so different from New York. The pace, the people, the fashion, the living-the everything. So locating a Starbucks in Milton Keynes, was like hitting the lottery (almost). I was so excited that I could finally have my favorite drink (post 7 day detox) that I ended up going their twice within our 4 hour shopping spree. There wasn’t even a line either time. Tea and Coffee (the sub-title) is so fitting-for both countries.

The fashion in England continues to progress, as I have spotted stripes, intricate prints, hues of every color (like fifty shades of pink), and scintillating sheer detailing. Although I may need to buy another suitcase to bring my new wardrobe home, I can’t say that I’m done shopping as we are heading back into London this weekend (and because of course I am a natural shopaholic).

With all that being said-I’m going back to bed in hope that I feel better for the party tomorrow. Keep posted!

Kardashian Spotting

If there is anything a Kardashian and I have in common, it’s picking the same airline. Or country for the time being. Both Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner traveled into Heathrow airport this morning, with very over packed luggage.

The pair had a porter pulling their trolley containing 11 large suitcases and suit bags to ensure that they had enough clothing for their stay. Kourtney was joined by her boyfriend Scott Disick for the trip as the newly crowned “lord” is due to attend various of social commitment while in England, and their two children Mason and Penelope.

Armed with a mountain of “designer” luggage

While Kourtney looked chic in a black and white checkered jacket as she left the airport pushing Penelope in a stroller, Kris opted for quite an odd ensemble consisting of a heavily patterned black and white suit, with flat studded loafers. But mason looked the comfiest wearing a blue onesie, with black biker boots.

Kourtney and her family flew into London on Virgin Atlantic after a very busy stay in New York. Taking the same exact 8 hour flight I took just a few days before. The airline is fantastic, and I’ve been flying with them ever since I was 6. Having a Bumble & Bumble hair salon and spa in their VA lounge, a bar on board, private beds, gourmet food and even shopping while in the air, I can’t say their is anything I have to complain about.

On Tuesday 34 year old Kourtney and 57 year old Kris wore firefighter outfits while visiting a local station in Manhattan. They skipped posing with massive hoses and favored brandishing pike poles for the tourist snap which they posted on Instagram. “It was an honor to visit everyone at Fire House 10 thanks guys!”-the momager tweeted to her 2.9+ million followers. Fire house 10 is across the street from the World Trade Center site and the 9/11 memorial, where a total of 343 firefighters and paramedics were killed in the devastating terrorist attack.

Earlier on Tuesday, the reality stars were seen leaving their Manhattan hotel “rocking” matching Birkin bags, priced around $15,000 each. Kourtney wore a green Army jacket over an all black leather top with skinny jeans and riding boots, while Kris wore a printed blouse, black leather pants, and high heeled boots. Age appropriate? You can be the judge!
